The Ocean Biology Processing Group has detected a notable decline in the scientific accuracy of MODIS-Aqua and MODIS-Terra Ocean Color data products since 2023. This decline stems from challenges in monitoring and adjusting for changes in instrument calibration using solar diffuser and fixed ground targets. These platforms have begun to drift away from their standard orbit node crossing times of 13:30 and 10:30 mean local time, respectively.
